Choirs

St. Augustine is said to have taught that “he who sings well prays twice.” At the Cathedral of St. Joseph, our Music Ministry embodies this teaching, striving to elevate the liturgy through the beauty of sacred song. Through the work and ministry of our musicians, the music offered here is not merely an accompaniment but an integral part of worship. Each ensemble contributes uniquely to our mission of fostering prayer and deepening the faithful’s encounter with God.

The Cathedral Choir is formed of dedicated volunteer and professional musicians and provides music for the 10:30 a.m. Mass each Sunday from the Sunday after Labor Day through the Solemnity of Corpus Christi. The Choir is also the principal ensemble for special liturgies such as Christmas, Easter, and our various liturgical celebrations throughout the course of the year.

The Cathedral Schola is a smaller group of professional musicians who provide music for special liturgies throughout the liturgical year. Notably, the Schola enhances the celebration of Sung Vespers during Advent and Lent, creating a deeply prayerful atmosphere. Their repertoire spans a broad range of sacred music, including Gregorian chant, Renaissance polyphony, classical motets, and works by renowned contemporary liturgical composers. Through their artistry, the Schola seeks to draw the faithful into the beauty and mystery of the liturgy.
