Sacraments & Faith Formation
- First Holy Communion
- Children’s Liturgy of the Word
Welcome to the Cathedral of St. Joseph’s Sacramental Preparation and Faith Formation program. Our Formation and Education program encourages participants on their journey of faith toward falling deeper in love with Jesus Christ. Our program is rooted in Sacred scripture and the Catechism of the Catholic church and buoyed up by the Sacred Tradition of the Catholic Church. We teach that full and active participation in the liturgical and sacramental life of the Church is the most intimate way we experience the tremendous love of Jesus Christ. Marriage is the Sacrament that best reflects the permanent and lasting covenant of love Christ has established with his Church. First Holy Communion
Classes begin September 15, 2014 and meet every Sunday at 9:15 AM in the Cathedral offices, until the second Sunday of Easter, and are open to any children who have reached the age of reason.
Classes are held every other year and are open to those young adults who have reached the age of discretion. Next Class begins Fall of 2014!
Through our Confirmation classes you will learn that loving Christ is a call to belief and action. You will learn what it means to be an active and involved member of your parish family and you will be offered opportunities to get involved in your Cathedral parish all while learning more about the Catholic faith you profess.
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
Our RCIA program offers formation to all adults who are seeking full initiation or full communion in the Catholic Church. Classes begin in September and conclude in the spring and meet every Sunday at 9:15 AM on the Rectory. Our RICA formation program is open to the whole parish and we encourage our parishioners to participate in the weekly classes so they might share their experiences of the Christian life. As part of the ongoing formation for newly initiated members we offer and encourage participation in the THIRST Adult Faith Formation program. From those seeking initiation to us Catholics needing a refresher in the foundations of the faith, all are invited to attend.
THIRST is our adult faith formation program that meets on selected Thursdays at 6:00 PM in the Cathedral Church around the Baptismal font. THIRST emerged out of prayer and reflection on Mother Teresa’s mystical experience of Christ on the train in Loretto when she heard Christ speak the words, “I Thirst.”
Realizing that Christ is searching for souls solidly formed in the faith and ready to “offer an explanation for the reason of their hope” we instituted the THIRST program. We spend the evening discussing a particular area of the faith by reflecting on a passage from Sacred Scripture that supports the teaching of the Church. Then we conclude with communal prayer, a meditation song and time for fellowship. You don’t have to be Catholic, or steeped in Catholic theology, everyone is welcome to join us. After all, the purpose of THIRST is to learn how to be better disciples of Christ. For more information about THIRST check out our bulletin for dates and topics.
